Uh Oh

The trip to Florence was uneventful, but the hotel we thought would be a problem. The front of the hotel was just a door. A door in a bad street in a bad neighborhood. First we entered the door, pressed the buzzer for the cage door stairs and walked up the stairs once the cage had opened. Then, the miracle. The lady on the counter was very friendly and helped us plan our our itinerary for the next two days. She was awesome, very knowledgeable. The room, while basic and small, was also clean and quiet.

Based on her advice we set off very quickly for Lucca and Pisa. We didn't see much at Lucca but it was pretty and not knowing much about it, it was our fault, not the town. The information centre was closed (all museums and information are closed on Monday's), so we could get not map. We had caught the bus to Lucca and jumped on train for Pisa via the Tuscan hills which was worth the trip alone. Pisa was sensational. Another beautiful town and of course the leaning tower. The whole area around the tower was sensational.

We returned to our hotel. By then, the location had grown on us and we popped into one of the many restaurants for dinner as per the lady's recommendation. One of the cheapest and best meals yet.

Thought for the day. You can never judge a book by it's cover.
