We jumped on a hydrofoil (local ferry service) and set off, only took about 40 minutes from Napoli, or Crapoli as Gary has nicknamed it.
Once we arrived we could hardly believe our eyes. The island is amazing. In case anyone is thinking of retiring there property costs a whooping €25,000/m2.
We started out on a boat cruise around the island. This cruise included a stopover at the Blue Grotto. Apparently, the Romans knew about it and considered it special. The cruise was brilliant but by the time we got to the grotto, the sea had got a bit rough and it was closed. The way into the grotto was by rowboat through a one metre high opening in the rock face. Missing out was a bit disappointing, but what can you do.

We also wanted to go to Sorrento, so we decided to leave Capri soon after the cruise. But, the next hydrofoil was not for an hour and a half. That would still give us about 3 hours at Sorrento. While we waited, we walked to the city centre of Capri, this was up 750 metres of stairs. It was warm, so we used that as an excuse for another gelati at the top.
We headed back down to catch our boat to Sorrento. When we got there, we went to buy our ticket for the last boat back to Napoli. Small problem. The boat we intended to catch a 6:30 had been cancelled and the last boat was now 4:25pm, giving us a total of 45 minutes in Sorrento. Enough time to walk to the main street and back. Bummer!!
Thought for the day. Faffing about is something best left for Top Gear hosts.
